When our children are experiencing big emotions. We want to focus on Connection before Correction. Connection helps a child to feel safe, heard and loved. It brings down the stress response in the body so that a child is more likely to learn from the experience.

Once a child is calm, we can work with them on reinforcing limits, problem solving, identifying triggers and needs, making amends, and when required putting in consequences.

With our little ones, we can use the ACT acronym: Acknowledge the feeling, Communicate a limit, and Target an Alternative.
