The Institute of Child Psychology

was founded to educate parents and professionals on issues pertaining to children’s mental health and to promote the psychological and emotional well-being of children and adolescents.

Our mission is to empower caregivers (i.e., parents, teachers, therapists, social workers, psychologists) by giving them pertinent insights, skills and tools necessary to help children thrive.

The Institute of Child Psychology places the importance of insight, compassion, trust and warmth at the heart of our work. We want to foster lasting change in the lives of families and to transform our community.

We believe that everyone should have access to affordable mental health resources.

After two successful years of sold-out conferences in Edmonton, The Institute of Child Psychology is offering the Edmonton Children’s Mental Health Confrerence for the third year in a row! It will be held at the Edmonton Expo Centre on May 1st – 3rd (Parking is included for all participants). The event will bring in over 1000 people, the majority of whom are parents and educators from Edmonton and surrounding communities.

We kick off the event with world renowned author and speaker Kim J. Payne, M.ED. (Publications: Simplicity Parenting, The Soul of Discipline, Being Your Best When Your Kids are at Their Worst, Beyond Winning: Smart Parenting in a Toxic Sports Environment). Kim Payne professional versatility  is demonstrated his multiple roles in mental health including his work as a school counsellor, adult educator, consultant, researcher, and a private family counsellor for twenty seven years.

He has penned multiple books on parenting, as well as consulted for educational associations in over 12 countries. Following the evening with Kim John Payne, we move into the two days of workshops which will include a full line up of topics pertaining to children’s mental health issues. All workshops will be led by Psychologists and Clinical Counsellors who specialize in children’s mental health and teach and practice within Alberta.

Topics Include: Compassionate Discipline, Anxiety, ADHD, Anger, Depression,  Grief & Loss, Autism, Impact of Divorce and Separation, Trauma, Simplifying, Therapeutic Effects of Animals, as Partners in the Healing Process, Highly Sensitive Children, Impact of Technology, and Being at Your Best When Your Kids are at Their Worst.

This conference is the only of it’s kind in Edmonton, so this is an amazing opportunity to be a front runner in advocating for education around children’s mental health in our great city! We invite you to become one of our sponsors, to be an advocate for children’s mental health and to join us in creating a community where the stigma around mental health is dismantled. Let’s move forward together in empowering parents, caregivers, mental health professionals and educators in creating a more hopeful, dynamic future for our youth.

We look forward to having you as a partner on this incredible journey!
