The Institute of Child Psychology Certification in Children’s Mental Health Fundamentals is designed for individuals who are wishing to receive formal accreditation from the Institute of Child Psychology for continuing education, employment purposes, and/or personal development.

With this certification you are demonstrating your knowledge in the areas of: introductory child psychology, essentials of interpersonal neurobiology, attachment-based interventions, child emotion regulation, and evidence-based parenting practices.

Get Certified in 4 Simple Steps

Step 2: Complete 6 Core Courses
These foundational courses will give you the essential tools and knowledge you need.

Step 3: Choose and Finish 9.5 Hours of Supplemental Courses
Pick from a list of approved topics that best match your interests or professional goals.

Step 4: Submit Your Essay
Write a final paper that brings it all together:

  • Format it using APA style

  • Include insights from your ICP courses

  • Reference at least 10 academic sources (journals or books)

Once you’re done, email your essay and all Certificates of Completion in a Word document to: support@instituteofchildpsychology.com

Compassionate Discipline

This course will begin with an overview of neurological development of children and how this accounts for their struggles with emotion regulation and impulse control. A thorough overview of attachment will be covered: parents will be able to identify and comprehend their current attachment style with their child, how that impacts behaviour, and how to strengthen the attachment should their be issues with connecting.

Anxiety has many faces, and in this online course parents, caregivers, and professionals will learn about the psychological and physiological roots of anxiety, why it is on the rise in our children, and what to do to help children better manage it. This course has a holistic* and strength-based approach that focuses on what we as caretakers, parents, and professionals can do vs. stigmatizing children who are struggling.

The use of technology in homes has increased rapidly over the past decade. Although helpful in many ways, it has also triggered many questions. In this online workshop, parents and professionals will explore concrete, research-based strategies geared to help children and teens manage screen use. Children with trauma can present significant challenges, and they often display patterns of behavior that can strain the relationship between the child and those caring for them. During this course we will explore the impact of trauma on neurological development and how this presents in children’s behaviors. The impact on attachment and the healing power of relationships will also be explored.

Once all requirements are complete, you are required to write a 3-5 page conceptualization paper on:
