Preschoolers can be a handful: wild, creative, emotional, and ever-so messy! They bring in so much life and light into our lives, but SO MUCH CHAOS. Best described, parenting a toddler can feel like herding cats. Up one minute, down the next, and every so busy. 

Did you know that 90% of the brain growth of your child happens before 5 years old?! Parenting with purpose, armed with the correct knowledge can set your child up for a lifetime of success cognitively, emotionally, and socially. We’re here to give you insight into this challenging age and provide you some evidence -based strategies to connect to your child, while also re-directing challenging behaviours.  We will also guide you in how to foster whole-brain development to set your little one up for success!!

Our Co-Founder, Tammy Schamuhn, Registered Psychologist,  Registered Play Therapist, and mother of three, will take you on an educational journey where you will feel supported in setting a foundation of success for your child.  All strategies and information provided is  informed by neuroscience, developmental psychology, and practical for parenting young children.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Better understand the stage of stage of psychological growth a child is in, and how to make developmentally appropriate accommodations
  • Identify strategies that foster healthy brain development [children ages 18 months-5 years]
  • Describe parenting/caretaking strategies that are developmentally appropriate for children in this age range
  • Understand how to reach your child, redirect emotions, and promote psychological growth
  • Decode challenging behaviours, and learn to connect during those difficult moments

HOW IS THIS COURSE DELIVERED?
This course is delivered through GotoWebinarA week prior to the event you will be given a link to register for the streaming of the webinar. All you need is a computer and a good internet connection.
NoteAll classes are pre-recorded the same day they are streamed. The instructor will be available to answer questions via email after each lesson. The option to attend the live* streaming at 11:00am MST will be given to participants 

WHAT IF I CANNOT ATTEND LIVE OR I MISS A CLASS?
That’s perfectly fine– we record all our lessons! No matter where you live in the world, you can access our course when and where you want. You will have access to both lessons for 30 days after they air. You will received a recording the following day to watch at your leisure.

Your Instructor

Tammy Schamuhn is a Registered Psychologist, Registered Play Therapist, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, and the Co-Founder of the Institute of Child Psychology. She has a Bachelors of Education from the University of Alberta and practiced as an Elementary Teacher in Canada before going on to do her Masters degree in Psychology. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of Family Counselling Centres where she and her team treat children, adolescents, and their families through the use of a variety of types of therapies. Her clinic also utilized animals in their practice, as Tammy has developed a canine-assisted and equine-assisted therapy programs for treating children and teens.

Furthermore, she also runs an extensive clinical internship program at her clinic where she trains masters-level interns who are training to become child psychologists, and provides clinical supervision to newly licensed provisional psychologists in the province of Alberta.

She approaches her clinical and consultative work with parents and professionals with an attachment and neurobiological lens: all of her work is based on the neurology of the brain and how attachment is integral to adaptive functioning of both children and adults.
