Description

Adding animals to your practice, or family,  adds cost and complication, but the benefits can be astounding. Teens who can’t or won’t engage in traditional approaches show up and flourish; kids who seem unreachable develop empathy and compassion; and the animals present ways to explore, both experientially and ‘one step removed’ through their stories, areas of need or pain which a child may not be ready or able to touch directly.

This workshop will introduce you to the growing fields of equine and animal assisted therapy defining terms and exploring key considerations including safety, the role of the animals and certification for practitioners. Attendees will gain insight into the benefits which can accrue from interacting with – or simply talking about – animals, and will leave with ideas, tools and resources they can draw upon within a wide variety of contexts.
