Working within the sand tray in the context of the play therapy process can help a child make their inner world tangible, process unconscious conflicts, promote the beginning of a health narrative, and begin to express themselves in a non-intrusive way.  It is appropriate for children undergoing or witnessing stressful events in their lives, those struggling with academic and social problems, learning disabilities, behavioural disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or anger; as well as those with attention deficit disorders.

This training is aimed at introducing mental health professionals to sand-based work within the context of play therapy. Participants will explore the basic theoretical foundations of Sandtray and Sandplay therapies, and will gain practical skills and strategies to work with children in order to begin integrating these modalities into their play therapy practice.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Introduce Sandtray and Sandplay therapies as a play therapy modalities
  • Explore the theoretical principles underlying the use of Sandplay and Sandtray therapies.
  • Differentiate between Sandtray and Sandplay modalities

VENUE:

Online via Learning Portal on Institute of Child Psychology website; sessions will be pre-recorded and available to view for 60 days after December 3, 2021. 

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This training is aimed at introducing mental health professionals (minimum level of education: Diploma) to the field of play therapy. Participants will explore the basic theoretical and ethical foundations of play therapy, and will gain practical skills and strategies to work with children in order to begin integrating this modality into their clinical practice.  One week before the access date our administration will contact registrants for proof of education/mental health license or enrolment in mental health program, participants will not be given access until this has been received. While a certificate of completion can be granted from the Institute of Child Psychology,  Play Therapy non-contact hours through the Association of Play Therapy will not be awarded to those that do not hold a Master’s or PhD degree.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT APPROVAL:

Association for Play Therapy: 6.5 non-contact hours (APT Provider #20-984)
APT recognizes this course as meeting the requirements for contact training hours towards* their national certification process to become a Registered Play Therapist

WHAT WE PROVIDE:

Handouts to review throughout the weekend. An electronic certificate outlining continuing education hours will be granted after the training  and a final quiz is completed.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS:

Withdrawals over 30 days before program start are permitted, yet subject to a $100 processing fee
