Have you ever wondered what mindfulness really means and how it can be used to support children and teens in the classroom or at home? Have you wondered about how mindfulness can be applied for children and teens in ways that support their overall wellbeing? Are you looking for new ways to address topics such as cultivating happiness, dealing with frustration, anger, sadness, anxiety, or behavioural issues?

Mindfulness can be used in a variety of ways to support mental health for children and teens both in classroom settings and at home. During this seminar, we will explore the roots of mindfulness as well as when it can be used with children according to their development. The biophysical foundations for the use of mindfulness with children will be examined. We will also identify situations in which children and teens can use mindfulness practices to resolve common behavioural issues and difficult emotions. Strategies to support effective teaching of mindfulness practices will be identified.

This course aims to offer practical information and strategies for implementing mindfulness practices in the classroom and at home, helping to support mental health wellness for children and their teachers or caregivers.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Examine the roots of mindfulness.
  • Understand child development and trauma in relation to mindfulness.
  • Learn the biophysical foundations of mindfulness.
  • Explore how to get buy in from children, parents, administrators, and others.
  • Explore mindfulness activities and planning for bullying, helping students with trauma,
    dealing with difficult emotions, creating community, and more.
  •  Identify how to set appropriate goals for planning mindfulness activities.
  • Learn how to teach children to fine-tune their use of mindfulness skills and activities.

This event is being held at our 2019 Edmonton Children’s Annual Mental Health Conference. Join us for empowering opportunities to learn, share, network, and be inspired! At this conference parents, caregivers, educators, and mental health professionals will come together to learn about the latest research, innovations, and techniques pertaining to children’s mental health and attachment-based parenting practices. All our workshops will be offered by Registered Psychologists and other professionals  who specialize in Children’s Mental Health; most of whom work locally in the Edmonton Area.
