Understanding Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Oppositional Defiant Disorder is a mental health disorder that can be incredibly difficult, challenging, and overwhelming, and can result in significant negative outcomes for the child and those all around them without intervention.
Understanding Oppositional Defiant Disorder will give a fundamental understanding of the who, what, where, why, and how of ODD, by: 1) Exploring the diagnosis, key features, and statistics of ODD; 2) Reframing problem behaviors with different psychological lenses; 3) Surveying the treatment approaches available to support children with ODD; 4) Developing practical tools and strategies so caregiver (parents, relatives, teachers, professionals and support staff) can work collaboratively to respond to the difficult behaviors that go along with ODD.
COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:Â
- Understand the diagnosis and key features of ODD.
- Differentiate between ODD and normal childhood behavior.
- Develop a thorough understanding of why symptoms occur.
- Understand the different treatment approaches available for children with ODD.
- Develop practical tools and strategies to help children with ODD.
- Develop practical tools and strategies to support yourself as the caregiver.
- Foster a collaborative approach when working with children with ODD.
